Sleep is a third of your life and the engine for the other two. Yet too often you wake up sweating. You push the duvet off, fall back asleep, and half an hour later you're awake again, cold this time, pulling it back over you. Hot, then cold, then hot. That was most nights for me, for years.

We expect more from our clothes than we used to. More from what we train in, what we work in, what we relax in. Yet we've expected very little from what we sleep in. Most men's sleepwear is still designed to look a certain way rather than to be slept in. Half of it is landed-gentry cosplay: cuffs, collars, chest pockets. The rest is novelty prints and flannel tartan. Nearly all of it traps heat, holds sweat, and bunches the moment you turn over.

I believe cotton is the king of complacency in sleepwear. Cotton gets hailed as "breathable," which simply means some air can pass through it. What they fail to tell you is that it also absorbs sweat and holds it. Once it's damp it stays damp. If you don't wear cotton pyjamas, you're in a cotton t-shirt, or cotton boxers, or bare skin in cotton sheets.

WHAT I DID ABOUT IT

I spent 18 months learning as much as I could about sleep and testing fabrics from all over the world. I kept asking myself one question: what would sleepwear look like if it was made for how we move and sweat during sleep?

The answer became the Equinox collection.

THE FABRIC

It's called SERIS™. An ultra-fine fibre spun from sustainably grown European beechwood, cool to the touch and finer than silk. It pulls sweat off the skin, so there's no clammy layer being held against you. Cut loose, so air moves and nothing drags when you turn over.

I wanted it to look good as well. Clean, understated, the kind of thing you'd answer the door in without thinking about it.

What you sleep in is worth getting right. And you notice it the next day: clearer, sharper, in control.

If you've written sleepwear off entirely, I did too, for years. This is the version I couldn't find.
